Life And Times -
Spirituality vs Religion

Religion is an institution established by man for various reasons. Exert control, instill morality, stroke egos, or whatever it does. Organized, structured religions all but remove god from the equation. You confess your sins to a clergy member, go to elaborate churches to worship, told what to pray and when to pray it. All those factors remove you from god.

Religion can be defined as “belief in God or gods to be worshipped, usually expressed in conduct and ritual” or “any specific system of belief, worship, etc., often involving a code of ethics.”

Religion denotes "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances and a moral code."

Spirituality is born in a person and develops in the person. It may be kick started by a religion, or it may be kick started by a revelation. Spirituality extends to all facets of a person’s life. Spirituality is chosen while religion is often times forced. Being spiritual to me is more important and better than being religious.

Spirituality can be defined as “the quality or fact of being spiritual, non-physical” or “predominantly spiritual character as shown in thought, life, etc.; spiritual tendency or tone.”

Spirituality can be defined as "the quality of being spiritual".

The most common misconception about religion is that Christianity is just another religion like Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, etc. Sadly, many who claim to be adherents of Christianity do practice Christianity as if it were a religion. To many, Christianity is nothing more than a set of rules and rituals that a person has to observe in order to go to heaven after death. That is not true Christianity. True Christianity is not a religion; rather, it is having a right relationship with God by receiving Jesus Christ as the Savior-Messiah, by grace through faith.

If you're over the age of say 5, you've probably encountered people who are constantly telling you about their religion and its principles, scriptures, and rules, and if you don't believe what they believe you've probably entered into a debate or two with those who are entrenched in their religion.
You may believe that there is a "Spiritual Being" who governs the Universe and our lives, but you definitely don't subscribe to any religion.

So you're not Religious but you are Spiritual, and you should be able to be that without being made to feel as though you have committed some unforgivable sin, broken some written in stone commandment, or that your life after death shall be spent in purgatory.
I mean who's to say any religion is better than another or that one person's God is the only God in existence, and isn't religion supposed to be about peace, love and harmony? Wait, that's spirituality not religion.

As for me, I choose Spirituality in honor of the Master of Breath who guides my thoughts and my heart, and brings peace and harmony to my life.

Whether you choose Religion or Spirituality, shouldn't it be everyone's right to make their own choice without being made to feel as though they made the wrong choice?

If you're struggling with making a choice, hopefully you read something in this blog entry that helps you make the choice that is right for your life.

Peace, Love, and Harmony!
